Calving at super speed

We had 46 calves born in 33 days in our Autumn calving period.  When you factor in tb testing, whole heard health tests, pregnancy scanning and concreting projects that had made for a really busy few weeks. (It's a good problem to have as the number of your cows that calve in the first 3 weeks of your calving period is a fertility measure and once calculated, will reflect well on this autumn calving batch.)

These are the first batch of calves to be sired by Yarn Hill Exchequer. He was junior champion at the Lincolnshire show in 2019 and we are really looking forward to see what his progeny will be like.

We have had a really good result from our pregnancy scanning of the spring calving girls, and are expecting them to start on the 1st of February.

The ewes are due to lamb later in February and are now grazing the turnips that we grow as a cover crop to protect the soil over winter. Its good feed for the ewes as long as we supplement the right minerals. I am hoping that homeschooling continues until well into March as now our eldest is 6 he will be really useful.

I have really enjoyed a couple of months off selling our Beef and Lamb but have now started having regular batches back to sell. If you'd like to know when it's next available then send me a message.
